Each February, Ramsey School District joins the nation in observing Black History Month. While our curriculum integrates the stories of Black Americans year-round, this month provides a dedicated space to celebrate the profound contributions that have shaped the American landscape in science, technology, the arts, and civic leadership.
Why it matters today: In our district, Black History Month is a bridge to the future. By exploring the achievements of Black innovators and leaders, our students gain a more complete understanding of the American identity.
Our commitment: Throughout their time in our schools, students are encouraged to see themselves in the stories of the past and to understand that history is a living narrative they are helping to write. We invite our families and community members to join us in this celebration of excellence and resilience.
Whatβs next: We will be enhancing our annual International Night at Smith this year by hosting a one-hour combined African drum and African dance workshop including an audience participation segment. More details to follow!
