S.T.E.P. students successfully fundraised to bring MEVO Farms to our classroom! Together, we learned how to make natural lib balm using bee’s wax and essential oils. We then learned how to make tea out of chamomile, rose buds, and lavender. Our hope is to create our own lip balms and tea to sell at our coffee and tea cart business and during the holidays!

After MEVO taught us how to make lip balm and tea in our classroom, our STEP students were excited to visit one of their two farms to see where the magic happens. We learned about the crops grown at the farm, the type of work done throughout the year and ways in which we could help, and had the opportunity to make our own salad using the crops we harvested.

To wrap up our second unit in AP environmental science, students designed their own ecosystems inspired by video games, movies, TV shows, famous places, or their imagination. Students had to create a food web and explain a disturbance that would alter their ecosystem along with its effects and mitigation strategy.

The RHS Book of the Month Club enjoyed a special treat this morning as they discussed "Solito," a memoir by Javier Zamora. Thanks to our lovely students, Sarah and Alisson, we were able to connect the book to Salvadoran cultural cuisine as Alisson's mother made fresh bean and cheese pupusas! Thank you to Ms. Cosgrove for collaborating with us to invite English language learners to join our discussion and share stories!

Carving pumpkins and toasting pumpkin seeds during OT with Ms. Diaz to get us in the Halloween spirit 🎃.

Ms. Wohlrab created and led an exciting and meaningful scavenger hunt that allowed S.T.E.P. to explore the many learning spaces in the Media Center and everything the Media Center has to offer. Students worked as a team to read a map, find clues, and solve each clue using what they learned. Afterwards, students had the opportunity to explore their own interests. Thank you for the fun lesson, Ms. Wohlrab!!

S.T.E.P. proudly hosted their annual Apple Extravaganza event, and what a success it was! Students first visited a local farm to pick apples for their apple-themed breakfast, lunch, appetizer, dinner, and dessert recipes. Back in the classroom, they reviewed their recipes, created shopping lists, and then went grocery shopping so they could cook/bake for their guests. Students invited guests from various departments at RHS and were responsible for communicating with them via email in preparation for the event. After great conversations and A LOT of eating, the party ended in mini interview sessions in which our guests were put in the hot seat. Fun was had by all and bellies were definitely satisfied.

🇫🇷 In French classes, after comparing French and American school systems (including their grading systems) and reading an article on an alternative grading system in one of the French schools, RHS students are debating in french about the validity of the traditional grading system. Job well done!
