What's happening: Fifty students and seven teachers from Ramsey High School spent three days at the AMC Corman Harriman Outdoor Center from July 21-23, participating in the school's annual Leadership Training Camp.
The program targets students who have shown leadership potential at school, with participants selected through nominations from teachers, coaches, moderators, and counselors last May.
Why it matters: Ten veteran student leaders from previous years facilitated workshops focusing on essential leadership skills including communication, problem-solving, and public speaking. The peer-to-peer teaching approach allows experienced participants to mentor newcomers in developing key leadership traits.
Upon returning to school, these newly trained leaders will apply their skills across various school activities. They regularly assist with eighth-grade visitations, parent nights, Open House events, and alumni tours while contributing to teams, clubs, and classroom environments.
The leadership camp also serves as a platform for student input on school improvement. Participants are encouraged to propose policy changes, new programs, and innovative ideas to enhance the learning environment at Ramsey High School.
The bottom line: Leadership camp reflects RHS's commitment to developing the next generation of student leaders who will drive both school and district initiatives forward.
