What's happening: Francesca Muia and Karla Calderon, both members of Ramsey High School’s Class of 2026, recently completed "Recovery," a mental health awareness PSA that serves as the sequel to the previously acclaimed "Breathe." The project represents a significant step forward in addressing mental health concerns among young people in Bergen County.

Why it matters: The initiative brought together multiple stakeholders committed to youth mental health, including Glen Rock Police Officer Matt Stanislao, the Bergen County Board of Mental Health, the Bergen County Juvenile Officers Association and the Bergen County Chiefs Association.

This collaborative approach demonstrates how student-led initiatives can gain momentum when supported by dedicated community partners across law enforcement, mental health services, and educational institutions.

Building on Previous Success: "Recovery" builds upon the foundation established by "Breathe," with Muia returning to lead the project while welcoming Calderon as a new collaborator. The sequel format allows for deeper exploration of mental health themes while maintaining continuity with the original message.

The bottom line: Both students exemplified the leadership qualities that make Ramsey High School stand out with integrity throughout the project. Their work sets a powerful example for peers about the impact young people can have when they commit to addressing critical social issues.
