SDOL

Defense of Learning presentations are underway as seniors present culminating projects to faculty panels, fulfilling Ramsey's unique graduation requirement.

The projects: Students in Profile courses designed independent work around personal interests, passions, or community contributions, then defended their learning in formal presentations.

Why it matters: This culminating experience is an authentic application of all levels of our Profile, and it shows that we structure what we value and are making the Profile come to life.

A Ramsey Graduate: Ramsey graduates have to defend their learning process to show they can apply and transfer the Profile competencies as a result of their projects and their tenure in the Ramsey School District.

  • A key difference between our defenses and other culminating projects is that we assess students’ use of their projects to grow and develop.

  • Panelists use resources like this one to assess students’ defenses:

Reflection Rubric

Reflection is at the top of panelists’ rubrics, as it is the top habit of mind in our Profile.

What they’re saying: The 12th grade Profile Project is a capstone experience that marks the culmination of each student’s journey through the Profile program. It concludes with the Defense of Learning, where students take ownership of their storyβ€”sharing how they chose their project goal, applied Profile competencies to achieve it, and selected artifacts that best represent their growth. Presented to a panel of faculty, the Defense sharpens students’ public speaking and critical thinking skills while offering one final round of feedback before they pursue their post-high school goals. - Mrs. Holly Falcone, Supervisor of K-12 Science and Profile Projects.
