Last week, police officers from the Ramsey Police Department joined Tisdale students to teach them all about safety at home, at school, and in their community!

Why it matters: It’s important for children to know what to do in emergency situations. Talk with your children and have a plan in place!

  • Discuss Emergency Plans- Discuss different types of emergencies and how to respond, and create a family emergency plan (include meeting places and communication methods).

  • Practice Drills- Practice drills such as fire drills.

  • Teach Important Information- Ensure children memorize important phone numbers (parents, relatives, neighbors) and teach them their home address and directions to a safe location.

  • Emergency Services- Explain how to call emergency services and when to do so.

  • Community Resources- Inform them about local safety programs or workshops.

  • Open Dialogue- Encourage children to ask questions and voice concerns about emergencies.

  • Model Calm Behavior- Show how to remain calm and collected during emergencies.

The bottom line: Safety tips are important for kids because they help you stay safe and know what to do in tricky situations! When you learn how to be safe at home, school, or when you're out and about, you become more confident and can make smart choices.
