Maggie Gorman

What's happening: Ramsey High School Health and Physical Education teacher Mrs. Maggie Gorman was selected by the Junior Women’s Club of Ramsey (JWCR) for the Education Women of the Year award, presented at the Evening of Icons Gala. The event was held November 2 at the Ramsey Golf and Country Club and is facilitated by the JWCR to highlight and honor inspiring female leaders of Ramsey.

  • Personal Connection: Mrs. Gorman (then Ms. O’Hagan) was my Health and Physical Education teacher when I attended Ramsey High School. We were immediately drawn to her positivity and energy, and it is amazing to see that still be the case 25 years later!

Charged with nominating a person who mimics the JWCR mission and motto, “With hearts and hands we serve,” Mrs. Gorman was the obvious nominee on behalf of RHS. As a long-time Senior Class Advisor and a Wellness teacher, Mrs. Gorman:

  • Relates to students in a real and personal way.

  • Leads and teaches with heart.

  • Is emotionally invested and connected with students.

  • Is sought out by students for support, encouragement and validation.

  • Leads with great honesty - giving students critical feedback that will help them to make good decisions, and grow.

What they’re saying: “Whether it is in her role as a teacher, a coach, or an activity advisor, Mrs. Gorman’s students will run through a wall for her because they know she believes in them, they trust her, and they know she will support them. The JWCR was founded by a group of motivated women.  What would be more fitting than recognizing a motivated woman, who serves with her heart and hands to motivate hundreds of young Ramsey women to be their best selves as an icon?”
- Dr. Michael Thumm, RHS Principal

Why it matters: Mrs. Gorman is known to recognize and identify student needs, and she works to address these needs as they arise. She is present to support students in crisis, or others who have experienced trauma or a loss.  Simply stated, she is viewed as a “go to person” who will step in and step up to make things happen.

What she’s saying: “It is an honor to receive the education award from the Ramsey Juniors! Teaching at Ramsey for over 30 years has been a blessing to me. I am grateful for my amazing colleagues and family who carry me every day and make me a better person and teacher. I can only hope to continue to be relevant and help students of Ramsey become their best selves.” -Mrs. Maggie Gorman, RHS

Congratulations, Maggie! We’re so proud of you and are thankful of your service to the Ramsey community. 👏
