💙 The January issue of Ramsey Neighbors Magazine highlights the five dedicated school nurses who safeguard the health of the Ramsey school community, blending clinical expertise with hometown heart.
The Team Behind Student Wellness
Each nurse brings a diverse medical background to their respective school:
⭐ Rich Mion (Dater School & Head Nurse): Inspired by his own Ramsey High School nurse, Mion worked in med-surg for 10 years before transitioning to Dater in 2014.
⭐ Laurie Roche (Ramsey High School): A former ER, Pediatric, and NICU specialist, Roche shifted to school nursing to balance her career with her own children’s activities.
⭐ Laura Spiegelman (Smith Middle School): Previously a Labor and Delivery nurse at New York-Presbyterian, she transitioned to school nursing to be present for her three daughters.
⭐ Kathleen Gamble (Hubbard School): With a deep passion for pediatric oncology, Gamble’s career spanned several major medical centers before she joined the Ramsey team.
⭐ Alexa Patterson (Tisdale School): After 10 years as a neurosurgery operating room nurse, Patterson followed her "calling" to work with children in an educational setting.
Why it matters:
Continuity of Care: Many of these nurses are Ramsey graduates or parents themselves, allowing them to watch students grow from "freshman to senior year" or even care for the children of their own former teachers.
Community Trust: Living in town builds deep bonds. Nurses often see their students at the Farmers Market, the Ramsey Pool, or "Home for the Holidays," fostering a sense of safety and belonging.
What they’re saying: "That sense of connection and belonging... allows me to understand the community's values, needs, and challenges." — Alexa Patterson
👏Join us in applauding our School Nursing Staff for this well-deserved spotlight!
