Smith School’s very own Isabella Chimbay (8th grade) was selected as a New Jersey finalist for the International Peace Poster contest!
Each year, The Lions Club sponsors the "International Peace Poster" contest and generously provides monetary awards to the winners, as well as scholarships for the Ramsey School District.
The theme for this year's International contest is "Dare To Dream".
Out of all the Smith School submissions, Isabella was chosen to represent our school on the state level. She will compete against two other New Jersey artists and, if selected, will then move on to compete at the national level.
Congratulations, Isabella!🎉

Ms. Dobbs' 7th grade social studies students learn all about Diwali- a Hindu Festival of Lights which was celebrated this past weekend. Students participated in a virtual escape room where they were tasked with completing codes & challenges that could only be answered by reading and learning information about the holiday. Students loved this unique activity and learning more about the Hindu culture!

7th grade Spanish students of Señorita MacFayden's class visit the library to present their Dia De Los Muertos projects! Students have spent weeks learning about the traditions associated with Day of the Dead, researching famous Hispanic and Latino historical figures, and working to create skeletons representative of these individuals lives & contributions. Today students participated in a gallery walk to view their classmates designs and learn a little more information about these historical figures. ¡Buen trabajo!

Story Building @ Smith:
7th grade students in Mrs. Csengeto’s class went through the writing process in our week of immersion. They worked in groups and created a realistic short story then shared their drafts with their peer audience.

Señora Stokes, Señora Kenduck, Señorita MacFadyen & Señora Merritt are celebrating Día de los Muertos and eating the traditional dish of pan de muertos in their classes!

The mystery has been solved! Word in the halls is that Coach Blacido stole Dr. Esdale's shoes when he saw them left in the locker room after Mr. Christiansen 'forgot' them. He thought they were a gift from someone because the RHS Boys Soccer team is doing so well and he has a major game tonight! He wanted to wear them for good luck.
Although Mr. Urbs had his eye on them, they weren't the right size. Mrs. Morfing, Mrs. Ung and Mrs. Csengeto all had solid reasons to steal the shoes, but ultimately, they were outsmarted by Mr. Christiansen, who hid them in the locker room where no one could find them (or so he thought!).
Thank you everyone that participated and made this a fun event for Team 7-1. Also, thank you to Dr. Esdale for providing us with his shoes!

The Smith Best Buddies chapter had their first event! Our teams used their communication and problem solving skills to complete a scavenger hunt around the building! It was a huge success and we can’t wait for next time!

Reflection is key to lifelong learning: In sixth-grade social studies, we recently completed our first performance task of the year. Today, students spent the period reflecting on their learning before participating in a community circle💭

Happy November! 🦃
