
Smith's Environmental Club is excited to announce that they are partnering with media specialist, Ms. Lynn and the media center's bearded dragon! The club will be growing some bearded dragon favorites - Bok choy, parsley, mustard and collard greens as well as kale. The best part is, this will take place in the media center ... hydroponically! Stay tuned for next week's name reveal of Smith's new pet!

SeΓ±ora Stokesβ classes have been studying Spanish-speaking countries and nationalities during Hispanic Heritage Month. They watched a video with Mr. Blacido speaking Spanish about his childhood life in PerΓΊ. What a great opportunity for students to hear their physical education teacher speaking in the target language they are learning! π΅πͺ

Today was a big day! Smith's Student Government General Assembly was held this morning and was a great success! Mr. Schrettner and Mrs. Aiello thank all the homeroom reps that were able to attend this monthly meeting!




Students in Mrs. Broderick and Mrs. Donohue's class were solving a mystery today! They used density, solubility, and melting point to identify a mystery solid.



Smith's 7th graders had a visit from some furry friends! The Seeing Eye, located in Morristown, came to visit students today. Representatives spoke to students about how the organization was created and the importance of a puppy's training. After, puppies got some much-needed belly rubs, while students received some well-deserved kisses!


Today, Mrs. Young's sixth graders are hard at work creating their own Japanese feudal pyramids.





Mrs. Costanzo's 8th grade ELA classes are hard at work! They are exploring how conflict is created between individuals and society, focusing on how power is shown through the short stories and novels they are reading. They will continue to connect these ideas to their books, their own lives and the world around them. Keep it up! π





This week Ms. Meyers' class dove into calculations while figuring out density of mystery objects! We made a density tower after they calculated density of random liquids and put them in order! They really had fun and worked hard!






The Smith Wellness Department has started the FitnessGram Assessment. Students use their personal data to set fitness goals for the year!






Smith's 8th grade science students recently planned and carried out an experiment to get their silly putty to flow like rocks in the mantle. Great job, scientists! π§βπ¬

Students in 7-1 have been meeting with Mrs. Acebo to reflect on their strengths, challenges, and goals for this school year. These Student-led Conferences allow students to take a leading role in managing and planning for their success, and provide a thoughtful starting point for conversations with parents and the teacher.

Smith Middle School welcomes Guest Speaker Chris Singleton as the first part of our 6th Grade Accepting and Belonging Conversation series that emphasizes how our unity is our strength and we work every day to lead with empathy. #crushingit


Today, Mrs. Csengeto's students did a partner writing activity that allowed students to imagine the 'Town of 6-7' and use their knowledge of tone to create a mood for their readers. After, the partnerships rotated stories and using artistic techniques, changed the tone to create a different mood! Good job!



Mrs. Kelly's sixth grade science students were de"light"ed to use our light sensors today in class! We measured and compared the brightness of different areas in the classroom, and will use this data to help construct some more of our scientific principles for this unit.




Mrs. Salerni's period 3 class was locked into tone and mood today! They were able to see the artistic craft moves an author makes by viewing clips from the original "Frozen" movie and a 'horror' version of the movie. π₯


Mrs. Nixon's math students are grappling with complex math problems this morning! Keep it up! ππ»


Ms. Meyers' class is working on characteristics of substances. Property characteristics are specific to the substance, such as melting point, boiling point and solubility.
