Hubbard School’s RAMbassadors have been hard at work as part of the Student Advisory Council, meeting with peers and school leaders to share ideas and make a positive impact on our school community. Mrs. Linden, school counselor, and Mrs. Linzenbold, principal, took part in this work along with Superintendent Dr. Matteo.

RAMbassadors meet with Dr. Matteo every other month as part of the SSAC, where they share pizza and ideas while discussing ways to make Hubbard even better. One common topic that came up was recess. Students reflected on their own experiences and began thinking about ways to improve both outdoor and indoor recess for everyone.

To better understand what was working and what could be improved, RAMbassadors collected real-time data by observing recess and talking with classmates. Through these observations, they identified ways to make recess safer and more fair for all students. As a result, the school was able to purchase helpful tools such as penalty flags to stop unsafe play, yellow and red cards for rule reminders, and a large timer to ensure everyone gets a fair turn on the tire swing.

The group also focused on indoor recess. By gathering input from students, RAMbassadors helped create a plan for activity bins filled with engaging materials like card games, trivia sets, and creative supplies. These bins will be placed in each third grade classroom and in the music room to give students easy access to meaningful activities during indoor recess.

To bring their plan to life, RAMbassadors presented their ideas at a PTO meeting. At the end of the presentation, a resounding yes filled the room from PTO board members and families, showing excitement and support for the project.

This work is important because it shows students that their voices matter and that they have the power to create positive change within their school community. Opportunities like this are what make the Ramsey experience so unique and special, as students are encouraged to lead, collaborate, and take ownership in making their school a better place for all.
