To wrap up an amazing Field Day at Dater School, students took part in the Ice Bucket Challenge for mental health awareness! By donating $1β$5, they cast their votes for which teacher would get icedβand the results were both chilly and unforgettable! A fun, meaningful way to cool off and support a great cause. π§π§π








Our Dater 5th graders had an unforgettable time at Field Day, showing off their incredible teamwork and school spiritβeven in the heat! Dressed in festive attire and bright colors, students cheered each other on, competed with heart, and celebrated the end of the year with energy and smiles all around. Winners from the Book Swap enjoyed a fun game of kickball today! Both the 4th and 5th grade classes had excellent sportsmanship!


This morning, the 4th grade students gathered for a day they had eagerly anticipated all yearβField Day! With colorful team shirts, plenty of sunscreen, and a healthy dose of excitement, students rotated through a variety of fun-filled events including relay races, pickleball, capture the flag, and soccer.
While the physical challenges brought plenty of energy and cheers, it was the spirit of sportsmanship that truly stole the show. Students clapped for their classmates, encouraged their teammates, and even high-fived members of opposing teams. Field Day 2025 was more than just a day of gamesβit was a celebration of what makes Dater Elementary so special: teamwork, empathy, and the joy of growing together. We enjoyed our "trip" to The Great Wall of China and The Nile River in 5Hedden.







After reading "A Mango-Shaped Space", Ms. Doherty's students had the unique opportunity to Zoom with a professional perfumer and chemist who experiences synesthesia. They explored how this sensory blending influences his work and deepened their understanding of the novelβs themes in a real-world context.



In Science, 5-S dove into a real-world challenge by simulating oil-spills in their own 'oceans'. Working in teams, students had 10 minutes to clean up the spill using a variety of tools and materials; no easy task! These 5th Graders know how to bring their full innovation and creativity to every class activity.π








5Modesto/Azouri enjoyed the beautiful Spring weather by reading our class read aloud Wonder. Students loved taking turns reading a page to show off their awesome reading expression, which brings the characters to life! πβοΈ




To celebrate their incredible effort and perseverance during i-Ready, LinkIt, and NJSLA testing, the 5th grade students earned a well-deserved movie and popcorn party! The students enjoyed watching Escape from Mr. Lemoncelloβs Library, a fun and adventurous film that perfectly connected to our exciting author visit with Chris Grabenstein earlier this year. π¬πΏ





4Guarnieri has officially jumped into our Realistic Fiction unit! To kick things off, students took time to reflect on their progress as readers and set meaningful goals. This supports them in taking ownership of their learning, and further building a growth mindset. Through realistic fiction, weβll explore characters facing real-world challenges, make connections, and deepen our comprehension. Weβre so excited to explore these elements throughout the unit!

The L.E.A.D. Talent show was a huge success! Our performers showed creativity and courage to share a message about saying no to drugs and bullying. Thank you to Officer Beamon, Ms. Mary, and the Ramsey Police department for making this program possible. Thank you to our amazing PTO volunteers who helped to organize and run the event. Thank you to Mr. Quinlan, our MC, Mr. Bogert for bringing the chorus and Mr. J with the pep band intermission. Fun was had by all! Go Rams! π

As a culmination to persuasive thinking, students in 5Jezequel have been waiting patiently, (2 weeks!), while a rock tumbler created "sea glass". The idea: There is no need to throw broken glass into the ocean to "seed" glass. Under supervision, it can be created using recycled glass!
