Smith School hosted the Intra-School Competition for Battle of the Books earlier today! Battle of the Books is a Trivia Competition for students based on a predetermined list of 15 books. Since October, student teams of five have read the books, discussed them, and held meetings to practice quizzing each other on the contents. This is the 13th year that Smith School has had a participating Battle of the Books team, and this year the first-ever formalized in-school battle at Eric S. Smith School! Next week, students will travel to compete in the County-Wide battle at Cavallinni Middle School. In the 6th grade, our winners were "The Smarties": Emma Latorre, Emily Al-Ola, Elena Oppenberg, Kudrat Kaur, Henry Ardito. And in the 8th grade, our winners were "Team Two": Lin Miao, Lila Yakata, Summer Goodfellow, Ellie Thumm, Dylan Lagomarsino.

The musical talent in our district is AMAZING! Last night's choral collage featured singing groups from Dater, Smith, and the high school. The groups performed separately and together in a fast-paced and exciting show featuring great songs and performances. Special thanks to our vocal teachers: Mr. Bogert (Dater), Mr. Ricigliano (Smith), and Mr. Wolf (RHS).
The arts are alive and well in Ramland!

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS! Congratulations to the middle school boys' basketball team. In the first year back after a decade with no middle school team, the Rams, led by Coach Taylor, captured the league title with a hard-fought 51-49 victory over a good Westwood team.
Education-based athletics are an important part of the Ramsey experience.
Another great day to be a Ram!

Smith School's 7th and 8th grade French students celebrated the holiday, la Chandeleur earlier this month. Chandeleur is National Crêpe Day and coincides with Groundhog's Day. On la Chandeleur, the French eat crêpes which symbolize the sun representing the move from winter to spring. The students got to make, cook, flip and fill their delicious crêpes with fillings ranging from fruit and whipped cream to chocolate and lemon/sugar. This was a great cultural experience for the students and one that most want to share at home with their own families.
Proverb: À la Chandeleur, l'hiver cesse ou reprend vigueur. (On Candlemas, Winter ends or gets worse.)

Smith School will be CLOSED for Presidents Day on Monday, February 19th, and CLOSED for February Break from Tuesday, February 20th until Friday, February 23rd. School will resume as usual on Monday, February 26th. Enjoy the break!
