Happy Diwali to our Hindu and Sikh community!

Diwali, also known as “the festival of lights,” symbolizes light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil.

It’s Election Season in Room 130!

As Unit 1 comes to a close, students participate in a mock election to simulate the election process, from the primary all the way to the general election.

Students had the opportunity to propose classroom policies, ranging from homework pass rewards to preferred seating days. They then campaigned and ran in an election to get their policies enacted in our classroom.

Classroom simulations like this are a powerful tool for making learning memorable, helping students experience democratic processes firsthand while building civic knowledge and engagement skills.

Smith's Environmental Club is excited to announce that they are partnering with media specialist, Ms. Lynn and the media center's bearded dragon! The club will be growing some bearded dragon favorites - Bok choy, parsley, mustard and collard greens as well as kale. The best part is, this will take place in the media center ... hydroponically! Stay tuned for next week's name reveal of Smith's new pet!

Señora Stokes’ classes have been studying Spanish-speaking countries and nationalities during Hispanic Heritage Month. They watched a video with Mr. Blacido speaking Spanish about his childhood life in Perú. What a great opportunity for students to hear their physical education teacher speaking in the target language they are learning! 🇵🇪

Smith's 7th graders had a visit from some furry friends! The Seeing Eye, located in Morristown, came to visit students today. Representatives spoke to students about how the organization was created and the importance of a puppy's training. After, puppies got some much-needed belly rubs, while students received some well-deserved kisses!
