Last Friday, I attended the NJ Leadership Summit in Livingston, NJ. Renowned educational thought-leader Jay McTighe was the keynote speaker and addressed the question:
How can we create a coherent and aligned pre-Kβ12 curriculum and assessment system that integrates Portrait of a Graduate competencies with academic content?
He used the Ramsey story to demonstrate success in this area.
The big picture: Jay worked with our district as a consultant for several years developing our curriculum and Profile Projects.
A few hours later, our very own Dr. Biunno, Director of Academics, presented, βTurning vision into system: Operationalizing the Profile of a Graduateβ and shared how:
How Ramsey became the first district in NJ to formally adopt a Profile of a Graduate. From engaging over 1,000 stakeholders in selecting competencies to designing capstone Profile Projects, the district is working to embed the profile deeply across curriculum, instruction, and assessment and use it as a north star for system-wide learning.

Judging by the amount of people taking pictures of the slides and the number of people who came up to us afterward, I think it is safe to say that this room full of educational leaders was impressed.
Jay McTighe came over immediately after and say he felt βlike a proud poppaβ for the great work that is happening in Ramsey.
It was a great day to be a Ram! π
