What's happening: Dater is lucky to participate in LEAD, which refers to Law Enforcement Against Drugs and Violence, a school-based prevention and education program focused on helping students make healthy life choices and avoid involvement with drugs, alcohol, bullying, violence, and other risky behaviors.
Why it matters: The LEAD program promotes:
Drug and violence prevention education: The curriculum (including an age-appropriate program like Too Good for Drugs) teaches students about the dangers of drug and alcohol use, how to resist peer pressure, and how to make positive life choices.
Social-emotional and decision-making skills: Lessons build self-confidence, healthy decision-making, and pro-social behaviors that help reduce susceptibility to substance use and negative influences.
Positive relationships with law enforcement: By having local police officers participate directly in instruction and school activities, the program strengthens respectful, community-oriented relationships between students and law enforcement
One fun thing: In addition to its engaging in-school lessons, the LEAD program offers meaningful out-of-school activities for students, including a tubing trip, a talent show, and an end-of-year pool party.
This last week, the LEAD program hosted a brrr-illiant snow tubing adventure for our 5th graders. Laughter was flying faster than the tubes, and the fun just kept rolling. Talk about a cool way to build memories together!
Thank you to Officer Beamon, and all of the volunteers, who made the event a huge success!
