Former DECA member and RHS graduate (Class of 2024) Katie Schreiber returned to speak with Marketing students this week about how her high school experiences continue to influence her success in college and beyond.
Katie is a sophomore at the University of Maryland, double-majoring in Marketing and Operations Management & Business Analytics at the Robert H. Smith School of Business.
Go deeper: DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) is a nonprofit student organization with over 290,000 members worldwide that prepares high school students for careers in Marketing, Finance, Hospitality, and Management by focusing on three core areas:
Competitive Events - where students solve real world business problems.
Leadership Development - where students take an active role managing the club, ensuring it runs efficiently while helping members prepare for their competitive events
Real-World Application - where students identify a topic or problem, conduct research using project management skills to plan and execute a solution.
What theyβre saying: βOur 160-member DECA chapter not only develops studentsβ leadership, communication, and critical thinking skills but also gives back to the community. We have raised nearly $10,000 for organizations such as Tommy Strong, CL7, OASIS, The Covenant House of New Jersey, and the American Cancer Society to name a few. The club has also participated in awareness and service projects, including ThriftaPalooza, FemForce, the Kireker Center toy collection, and the Tomorrowβs Childrenβs Fund toy collection, educating and supporting our community in meaningful ways.β -Mrs. Incardona, DECA Advisor
