What's happening: Smith School 8th graders attended the highly anticipated annual trip to Washington D.C. the week before spring break.

Why it matters: This Smith School tradition allows students a deeper connection to their Social Studies curriculum from the past three years. During the three-day trip, students had the opportunity to explore important monuments and memorials, including:

  • The African American Museum

  • The Holocaust Museum

  • The Smithsonian Museums of Natural History & American History

  • Arlington Cemetery

  • Iwo Jima Memorial

  • Jefferson Memorial

  • Lincoln Monument

  • Korean War Memorial

  • World War II Memorial

  • Martin Luther King Jr. Monument

  • The White House

Four Smith students, Abby Ogg, Owen Bloodworth, Kareem Hassan, and Arsh Singh, place the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. As an 8th grader at Smith, I also had the honor of placing a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It is a memory I will never forget.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated Smith teachers and administrators who graciously chaperoned and made this exceptional trip possible.
