Ramsey High School senior and local first responder, Alyse Lorusso, created the Sirens and Smiles Project to help children build positive connections with firefighters and EMTs.

Third-grade classrooms received visits from Alyse and other members of Ramsey Rescue, who:

  • Shared who the first responders are and what they do for our community.

  • Showed the gear and equipment they wear.

  • Answered students’ questions about what to do in an emergency and the role of first responders in our community.

The project aims to help students feel comfortable and confident around first responders and understand that they are here to help.

Thank you, Alyse, for creating this project to turn children’s natural curiosity into confidence and to inspire them to see first responders as role models!
