What's Happening: Saturday's Garden State Esports (GSE) Spring Playoff Event was nothing short of spectacular! Both of Smith's eSports teams, Mario Kart and Rocket League, entered May 16th's playoffs as the #2 seed in their respective brackets.
Mario Kart: In best of three circuits matches, the Mario Kart team beat The Center School 2-0 in the quarterfinals, but lost to eventual state champions Somerville 2-0 in the semifinals.
Rocket League: In best of five games series, the Rocket League team beat Jonas Salk Middle School (Old Bridge) 3-0 in the quarterfinals, then beat out Brookside School (Allendale) 3-2 in a hard fought match that included three overtime games, before beating the #1 seed Southern Regional 3-1 to win the state championship.
Why it Matters: At Smith School, there is something for everyone. Esports creates a space for students to work together as a team and grow with their peers along the way. Congrats to both teams as well as Mr. Frisch and Mr. Rockefeller on this great win! We are so proud of both teams on their accomplishments!
