What's happening: Mrs. Lawley recently took 21 fifth graders to Wandell School for the culminating event of a year-long book club partnership. Students spent the day connecting with their Wandell book club peers, discussing their shared book, enjoying lunch and ice cream together, and having fun at recess. The group also had the opportunity to attend the final dress rehearsal of High School Musical Jr., which was absolutely fantastic!
Why it matters: This unique book club experience helps students build friendships and connections before they become classmates at Smith School in September. By bringing students from both schools together throughout the year, the program creates a smoother transition to middle school while fostering a shared love of reading.
Bottom line: Great books brought students together, but the friendships formed along the way may be the most meaningful chapter of all.
