What's happening: This week, our students turned the page on an unforgettable experience as we welcomed acclaimed author Lauren Tarshis to our school. From the moment she began speaking, students were completely hooked.
One fun thing: Lauren took students behind the scenes of her writing process, sharing how she researches historical events, develops characters, and brings the I Survived series to life. She even gave students a sneak peek at the first chapter of a brand-new book that will not be published until September — talk about a cliffhanger!
Big impact: Lauren also shared chapters from her own life, speaking honestly about her childhood and her struggles with reading. Her message was one students will not soon shelve: you do not have to be born with a special “gift” or already know what you are good at to find success. Through perseverance, curiosity, and hard work, passions can grow over time.
The Final Chapter: We are so grateful to our PTO for funding this novel experience and organizing the book signing for our students. A special thank you also goes to Mrs. Lawley for helping organize such a meaningful event.
This author visit was truly one for the books!
