State Champions

A Historic Milestone for Ramsey Basketball

It is with immense pride that I celebrate a monumental achievement for Ramsey School District. On March 14, at Rutgersโ€™ Jersey Mikeโ€™s Arena, our boys basketball team captured the Group 2 state championship title with a 68-57 victory over Rumson-Fair Haven. ๐Ÿ†

โ€ผ๏ธ This win marks our first state title in 76 years, dating back to 1950, and officially cements this teamโ€™s place in the Ramsey history books.

Trophy

Why it matters: While Rumson Fair Haven held a size advantage, our Rams utilized superior speed and discipline to dictate the pace of the game.

  • The turning point occurred during a spectacular second quarter where we outpaced Rumson-Fair Haven 26-8.

  • During this stretch, our team displayed incredible composure, forcing seven turnovers without committing a single one of their own.

Key Highlights:

  • Balanced Scoring: Senior Owen Farley and junior Charlie Taylor led the offensive effort, each contributing 18 points.

  • Strategic Execution: By spreading the floor and pushing the transition game, the Rams successfully neutralized the interior threat of their opponent's 22-point scorer.

  • Consistency: After building a 38-20 lead at the half, the team maintained their focus, never allowing the gap to shrink below eight points for the remainder of the contest.

The bottom line: This 23-9 season is a testament to the "bread and butter" principles of our program: playing fast, shooting with confidence, and sticking to a collective game plan. After a decade of narrow misses in the semifinals, these young men have finally brought the trophy home to Ramsey.

Please join me in congratulating Coach Mark Christiansen, his staff and the entire team on this historic 68-57 victory. ๐ŸŽ‰

And, thank you to the Ramsey community who showed strong support at Saturdayโ€™s event. What a day to be a Ram! ๐Ÿ’™ ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ’›
