The lawn at Dater School has been magnificently transformed into a stirring spectacle of red, white, and blue.
This transformation marks the official dedication of the βField of Flags,β a poignant tribute unveiled yesterday in honor of Veterans Day.
The event was more than just the placement of flags; it evolved into a beautiful afternoon where the school community came together.
Staff and students took the opportunity to honor their own family members by sharing heartfelt introductions and cherished photos with everyone in attendance, making the occasion deeply personal and memorable.
Why it matters: Each flag represents a hero and stands as a powerful testament to the communityβs profound gratitude for the brave men and women who have selflessly served the nation.
The in-person assembly event held afterwards provided a unique chance for students to witness and interact with military veterans of all ages.
This interaction underscored the significance of the event, offering students a tangible connection to history and service.

Event details: The Field of Flags will remain on display throughout the entire week, serving as a poignant reminder of the true meaning of Veterans Day. It aims to instill a deep sense of patriotism and appreciation in Daterβs students, reinforcing the values of gratitude and remembrance.
βHolding a Field of Flags ceremony and Veterans Day assembly is an important way to help students understand and appreciate the sacrifices made by the men and women who have served in the United States military. Each flag represents honor, courage, and the service of those who worked to protect our freedoms.
Through this ceremony, students learn the meaning behind Veterans Dayβnot just as a holiday, but as a day to show gratitude and respect. It helps young people connect with history, recognize the values of service and sacrifice, and develop a sense of pride and appreciation for those who defend our country.
By participating in today's event, Dater students actively honored veterans, helping to keep their stories and contributions alive for future generations. Dater School ambassadors raised $290, which will be donated to the Disabled American Veterans field of flags program.
We were honored to have over 15 veteran family members attend our assembly. It was a beautiful moment to celebrate their personal sacrifice to our country.β - Jennifer Hicks, Dater Dean of Students
