Coach Whelan

Alexander Whelan β€˜15 has been appointed as the new Head Ice Hockey Coach for the combined Ramsey/Indian Hills hockey team. Whelan, a proud Ram and alumnus of Ramsey High School, returns to his hockey roots to lead the program that launched his successful playing career.

"We couldn't be more excited to welcome Alex home," said Dr. Andrew Matteo β€˜98, Superintendent of Schools. "His connection to the Ramsey community, combined with his hockey expertise and leadership skills, makes him the perfect choice for our ice hockey program.”

Whelan's journey in hockey began as a student at Ramsey High School, where he developed the skills and passion that would define his hockey career. His return represents a full-circle moment for both the coach and the program. The right wing recently finished his career with the Cleveland Monsters of the AHL. Whelan scored 48 goals during his collegiate career at Quinnipiac University and 36 overall during his professional career from 2020-2024.

The appointment comes at an exciting time for Ramsey/Indian Hills hockey, as the program looks to build on its tradition of excellence while developing students both on and off the ice. Whelan will officially begin his duties as Head Coach immediately, beginning with preparations for the upcoming season.

"Alex understands what it means to be a Ramsey Ram," said Andy Herre, Ramsey High School Athletic Director. "His commitment to excellence and his passion for hockey will be tremendous assets to our program not only as a coach but an integral member of our athletic department.”
