Third Grade Students Gift Bench in Honor of Classmate

A beautiful new bench was installed at the Let the Children Play natural playground at Mary A. Hubbard Elementary School in Ramsey, thanks to the Class of 2022. The third graders gifted the bench on June 14 to mark the memories of their classmate, Tommy FitzPatrick.

Fitzpatrick lost his battle with cancer at age 6, but his bravery and determination inspired all who knew him. Speakers at the dedication included some of the children who went to preschool with Tommy and consider him a close friend.

The bench was created and donated by Mahwah-based Rustic Tribe Design, and art teacher Michele Megna made kindness rocks that are turquoise, Tommy’s favorite color that he called “turquoist.” They feature messages from the students and were placed around the bench. Principal Kathy Pina and the PTO Executive Board also helped make the third graders’ dreams to give this gift a reality.
