Stepping Stones 2021

We hope that this letter finds you well.  Certainly these past 14 months have been like no other in so many ways.  While others talk about “loss of learning,” we believe that true learning is not something that can ever be lost and that a deficit-lens will not serve our students well.  We believe that our students have continued to learn deeply this year - mostly due to the heroic efforts of their teachers.

Despite the difficulties that these past 14 months have thrown at us, the Ramsey School District is dedicated to providing enriching experiences for our learners, and we would like to continue this in the Summer of 2021. As we have said many times throughout this past year, in Ramsey “our vision is not canceled.”

With those beliefs in mind and the reality of the 2020-2021 school year, we would like to provide an additional opportunity for students to accelerate their learning by continuing to build upon their skills and knowledge. As such, we would like to offer a two-week, in-person educational program called Stepping Stones for incoming students in Grades 1-8 that will provide further opportunities for extension and growth.  In this program, taught by Ramsey teachers, students would preview and prepare for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year in Mathematics and English Language Arts. While there will be academics taught during this program, it will also be designed to be fun, engaging, and focus on the development of the whole child.  As such, there will be daily social-emotional learning along with fun, enriching activities.

This program would run the weeks of August 16th and August 23rd from 9 am-12 pm. Students would be expected to make a commitment for both weeks.  To appropriately prepare, we are looking to gauge interest in this offering and therefore would very much appreciate your response to this interest form by Friday, April 30.

This program is being coordinated by Courtney Rejent, Assistant Director of Special Education, ( and Melissa Cruz, Supervisor of Mathematics and Business Education ( More information will be forthcoming, but feel free to reach out to them with specific questions.
