Safety and Security Update

The safety and security of our students and staff continues to be one of our top priorities. While we can’t disclose all the details for security reasons, there are significant safety and security upgrades that we would like to share with you.

  • Two additional district security officers.   Mr. Joseph Farrow and Mr. Jerome Fowler, both recently retired police officers, will join Mr. Michael Fanning as district security officers.  Both Mr. Farrow and Mr. Fowler bring years of experience and training that will increase the security at all of our schools.
  • A new lock-down system at each school.  This enables anyone inside the schools to instantly put a school in lockdown.  The new system automatically contacts all emergency personnel while providing audio and visual instructions along with providing alerts both inside and outside of the buildings, including fields. A communication will be going out to all parents with more detail about the system and what to do in the event of a drill or actual emergency.
  • Upgraded door access control systems.  This occurred at all district schools, giving us more control than we had in the past at all school entry points.
  • Swipe cards at Ramsey High School. This fall, all students at the high school will have security swipe cards to access the building. This will greatly improve security at the high school while maintaining an open campus.
  • Improvements to Busing.  In busing, we continue to enhance our protocols for bus inspections, safety drills, training and driver reviews with our fleet, as well as with our contracted busing companies. All buses used by the district have seat belts which all students and staff are required to use. In addition, we have purchased a new 54 passenger bus with lap and shoulder seat belts.
