    Parents, Guardians, Students,

Welcome to the 2016 - 2017 school year at Ramsey High School.

Please take time to read Attendance Policy 5200 and also the Student Handbook 2016-2017 for the complete attendance policy.

Good attendance and punctuality are very important factors in contributing to a successful educational experience for your child.  Individual classes start at 8:00 AM promptly each day.  High School students will be limited to 14 cumulative "unexcused" absences in a full-year course, 7 cumulative "unexcused" absences in a semester course, and 4 cumulative "unexcused" absences in a quarter course.  Any student who accumulates more than these "unexcused" absences per year on a class-by-class basis may not receive credit for the course.  Parents should call the attendance office at 201-785-2341 prior to 8:00 a.m. to report any absence of their child on the date of that absence.  If leaving a voice message, please state and SPELL your child's FIRST and LAST name and indicate a reason for the absence. If we do not hear from a parent, the school will call to verify the absence.

If your child arrives late to school (after 8:00 a.m.) they are to enter the school through the Main Entrance in the front of the building and report directly to the attendance office to sign in.  Students who arrive after 8:00 a.m. will be given one warning per month and assigned a 40 minute before school OR after school detention for each subsequent tardy.   Three tardies will result in an unexcused absence.   Five or more tardies during each month may result in other disciplinary action.  Please do your very best to get your son or daughter to school early.

If your child will be absent/tardy to school due to an illness and goes to the doctor, they must provide a DOCTOR'S NOTE to the attendance office within 5 school days of their returning to school for attendance appeal purposes. If your child needs to be dismissed early from school please have him/her bring a parent's note to the attendance office PRIOR to the start of the school day.  Please indicate the reason for the early dismissal.  Please note students will only be excused during the "passing" time in between classes, and will NOT be excused during class time.   Please plan accordingly. In addition, check your parent portal frequently for attendance related issues such as notification letters concerning your student's period attendance.

If your son or daughter is old enough to drive to school, please make sure they leave plenty of time to drive safely to school and find a legal parking spot. Legal parking spots on the streets located near RHS are very limited, and students are NOT PERMITTED to park on school property at any time during the school day.

Have a healthy and productive school year,
