The philosophy of the Family and Consumer Science department is to offer authentic learning opportunities to our students through the hands-on study of issues directly related to their everyday lives, such as child development, food safety and culinary arts. Students learn to problem solve and use critical thinking skills in order to become competent, caring, and confident individuals capable of managing their personal, family, and career lives. Students are encouraged to take risks and be creative in solving a wide range of real-life challenges while in authentic settings through labs and work within the community.
