Smith Track

  • Track We will be starting track practice in March.


    The 7th & 8th grade students will practice on Monday, Tuesday & Thursday.

    The 6th grade students will practice on Wednesday and Friday.

    Practice times are 3:15 to 4:30 PM. The 6th grade students will participate in only the home track & field meets. 

    The goal of the middle school track team is to encourage students to learn self-discipline, increase their organizational skills, become socially responsible, and to take responsibility for their own learning.  As coaches, we seek to teach the basics of track, competition, running, jumping, and throwing in general. We hope that the children will improve their endurance and strength, enhance their confidence in their own physical abilities, make new friends, and enjoy the track and field experience.  Running needs to be fun and rewarding (not necessarily trophy-wise).

    Every season, new members will join the “TEAM” and will need to learn the fundamentals of the sport.  On the other hand, those who are returning to the “TEAM” will receive reinforcement of the fundamentals, plus additional coaching to improve their personal times/distances, and to help them identify their better events.  We would not like to place the emphasis so much on winning any particular contest, but, rather, on the personal improvement of performance and character in each athlete.

    The start date for track & field is Wednesday March 25th for 6th grade; and Thursday March 26th for 7th & 8th grade.

    6th grade will practice on Wednesday and Friday
    7th & 8th grade will practice Monday, Tuesday & Thursday
