On January 13th, twenty-three students, along with the English Department staff, participated in Poetry Out Loud, a national recitation contest that encourages the nation’s youth to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about their literary heritage. The winners were: First Place – Julia Tokish, grade 10; Second Place – Julia Scott, grade 11; Third Place – Francesca Guthrie, grade 9. Nine Ramsey High School students were recently accepted in the 2016 Bergen County High School Band and Chorus. To gain acceptance into these prestigious groups, students competed in blind auditions against other students from across Bergen County. The Bergen County Band and Chorus will rehearse in January and both will perform in a concert at Paramus High School on January 17th. Congratulations to all of the students and to their music teachers at RHS, Ms. Saltzman, chorus, and Mr. Bialkin, band.
Visiting Ramsey High School: The Prospect Street parking lot is for staff only.Visitors are asked to park in the designated visitor spots in the Main Street lot. Do not park in a numbered parking space; these are for staff only. Enter only through the main center door in the front of the building. All visitors will be asked by the greeter for their driver’s license to process a visitor’s pass to access the building. To ensure visitors exit from this door, car keys are checked in at the greeter desk during appointment/meeting and returned upon departure.

JOHN J. AND HELEN M. DURANTE SCHOLARSHIP; This $4,000 scholarship is open to seniors who will be pursuing a career in the building industry. Building industry related courses are any curriculum which prepares the student for a career in any facet of the building industry, including but not limited to, Drafting and Design, Construction Technology, Mechanical Contracting, Air Conditioning and Heating Technology, Real Estate and Marketing, Electrical Engineering, Architectural Design, Surveying,Civil or Industrial Engineering, Electronic Engineering Technology, Environment Technology, Land Use Management, Construction Management, Planning, Landscaping Architecture, Urban Design and Interior Design. applications are available from Mrs. Maxwell in Dr. Thumm's office. The deadline for submission to the Principal's Office is March 21st.
There are more than one million homeless teenagers in the United States. You can help these teens by donating your new or used jeans, jean shorts or jean jackets during Interacts's Teen for Jeans Drive. The collection bin can be found in the front hallway throughout the end of the month.
There will be a quiz bowl at Manchester High School in Haledon on Tuesday, February 23rd for freshmen and sophomores. Please pick up permission slips from Mrs. Motto in Room 206.

The student congress is selling carnations for Valentine's Day. You can buy the flowers from any student congress member or at lunch TODAY. They are $1 each and will be delivered on February 12th, 1st time block.
