Parents, Guardians, Students,

Welcome to the 2012 - 2013 school year at Ramsey High School.  As you know, good attendance and punctuality are very important factors in contributing to a successful educational experience for your child.  Individual classes start at 8:00 AM promptly each day.  Some important information to remember, Parents should call the attendance office at 201-785-2341 prior to 8:00 a.m. to report any absence of their child on the date of that absence.  If leaving a voice message, please state and SPELL your child's FIRST and LAST name and indicate a reason for the absence. If we do not hear from a parent, the school will call to verify the absence.

If your child arrives late to school (after 8:00 a.m.) they are to enter the school through the Main Entrance in the front of the building and report directly to the attendance office to sign in.  Students who arrive after 8:00 a.m. will be given one warning per month and assigned a 40 minute before school OR after school detention for each subsequent tardy.  Please do your very best to get your son or daughter to school early.

If your child will be absent/tardy to school due to an illness and goes to the doctor, they must provide a DOCTOR'S NOTE to the attendance office within 10 school days of their returning to school for attendance appeal purposes. If your child needs to be dismissed early from school please have him/her bring a parent's note to the attendance office PRIOR to the start of the school day.  Please indicate the reason for the early dismissal.  A pass will then be issued to the student to leave school early.

If your son or daughter is old enough to drive to school, please make sure they leave plenty of time to drive safely to school and find a legal parking spot. Legal parking spots on the streets located near RHS are very limited, and students are NOT PERMITTED to park on school property at any time during the school day.

The attendance policy at RHS states:  each student shall not exceed twenty (20) absences in a year-long course, fifteen (15) absences in physical education, ten (10) absences in a semester course, or five (5) absences in a quarter course.  Students who exceed the maximum number of absences may lose credit for the course.  Please note that absences for field trips, performances, guidance appointments, nurse's visits, enrichment activities, co-curricular competitions and events, physical or emotional illness, death or serious illness in the immediate family, driving tests, court attendance, vacations, college visits, or other emergencies WILL be counted in the total number of absences.

Please take time to read the Attendance Policy 5200 (under Pupils Policy section 5000) in the 2012 - 2013 Student Handbook for the complete attendance policy.

Have a healthy and productive school year,

Mr. Andrew Herre,
Assistant Principal
Ramsey High School
