ERIC S. SMITH SCHOOL GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT
201-785-2317
This week, (the week of January 21st) we will be meeting with selected students in a School Climate Feddback group. Each grade level will have a designated day and time to meet and will take place in the library. These groups will provide us with the students' perspectives on the status of our school.
Attention all parents: The second marking period ends on Friday, February 1st. Paper copies of report cards will no longer be issued but your child's grades will be available via the parent portal on Friday, February 8th.
We encourage you to continue to monitor your child's progress on the Parent Portal. If you have already set up a username and password, you can log into the portal. However, if you have forgotten or misplaced this information, please contact the Guidance office and we can assist you.
Progress reports are also available online through the parent portal. To access progress report, you can click on the "Progress report" tab once you have logged into the portal. You will see either a comment or a number listed in BLUE on the right of the subject area. You can click on this and it will bring you to the progress report.
Upcoming activities:
The Guidance Counselors will be doing an activity with the students in the 7th and 8th grade Health classes (once in each 6 week cycle). In 7th grade, we will be focusing on friendships/relationships and how to effectively manage conflicts within these relationships. Students will be able to identify characteristics of a healthy relationship and will be helping them to further develop their communication skills. In 8th grade, we will be teaching the students about the decision making process and how to use these steps to make effective decisions.
Attention 6th grade parents:
Counselors will be conducting their second round of Lunch Bunches. Lunch Bunches are when Counselors meet with their students in small groups during lunch time to further establish a rapport with them and to develop communication skills.
We are also in the midst of developing a follow up activity to the 6th grade girls groups that met in the fall. Mrs. Caporuscio and Ms. Roberts will be meeting in small groups until they have cycled through all of the girls in th 6th grade.
