Parent Education

6th Grade Parenting Seminar
Sixth Grade Parents are invited to attend a “parenting seminar” at Smith School on Monday, October 18, at 7 PM.  The school nurse, team leaders, guidance counselors, and school administrators will meet with parents in small groups to share information and insights that will help you to understand the developmental and educational needs of young adolescents.  We will suggest a variety of strategies that will help you to support your children as they make the transition to the middle school program.  The seminar has been very well attended and well received.  I encourage you to attend.

Parent Literature Discussion Group
Parents read and discuss young adult literature with the middle school librarians. This is a great way to learn about the issues that are relevant to preadolescents and to share perspectives with other parents.  Parents meet once a month from 12:15-1:15 (next Session, Friday, November 12).  Forty to sixty parents typically attend.  Call our librarian, Mrs. Novak, for more information 201-785-2313.  Select one of the monthly novels by visiting the library in advance of the meeting.
